The Sanctity of Sanity - A Short Guide to Suffering

У вас не установлен Flash Player

Over the many years of our lives, we have lived through many tragedies and adversities: losing a loved one, losing a job, lifelong illness... All of this has left a lasting mark on our sanity and with the wisdom of the philosopher Epictetus - we might finally learn how to suffer properly. TRANSCRIPT: It is truly remarkable how much the human psyche can endure: losing a loved one, lifelong illness, war, debt, constant stress and pressure over the period of many years... and yet, many of us manage to hide the toll these experiences had on us. We are expected to look sane and act sane even though, statistically, none of us actually are. If we really took to heart all of the devastating things that have happened to us, if we actually processed them – we would never recover. It would be all that we could think about and we would completely lose our minds. So, the sanest thing we can do is to keep a healthy distance from reality; close enough so we don’t lose touch and perspective, but far enough so it doesn’t consume us completely and we lose ourselves. It's not a life without adversity that would keep our sanity intact, rather, it’s learning to not get too attached to everything that happens to us; to make peace with our struggles, in other words. As Epictetus said: “It's not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters.” Sources: Mental Health Disorder Statistics: https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/healthlibrary/conditions/mental_health_disorders/mental_health_disorder_statistics_85,P00753 Related article - Top 10 Myths on Mental Health: https://psychcentral.com/archives/top_myths.htm _________________________________________________________________ Twitter: https://twitter.com/No_FaceTweets Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NoFaceYouTube/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/no_faceinst...
