The wind reduces visibility on Kansas roads due to sandstorms. The Kansas Department of Transportation says several highways are closed. I-70 is blocked in both directions from the Colorado State Line to Salina due to poor visibility and accidents blocking traffic. Several power cuts have already been reported across the state. Strong winds, sandstorms, and high temperatures affect much of the Midwest. Life-threatening weather conditions, including high winds with high tornado risk and record temperatures, swept across the region from Mexico to the Canadian border. According to the National Weather Service, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, and Nebraska had strong winds and sandstorms. Gusts of more than 60 mph are possible from New Mexico to Michigan. Nebraska’s severely dangerous high winds, set to reach 70mph, have prompted many schools to cancel classes or switch to daytime online learning. Firms also adjusted opening hours or closed in anticipation of a storm. In Colorado, mountain foothills were up to 95 mph, and local authorities also warned drivers not to travel unnecessarily.
