Story of a rescued pitbull dog - Harold

I wasn’t ready to adopt another dog yet. It had only been about three months after my sweet Lola passed away. However, I’d been doing a nightly scroll on Petfinder just to see the available dogs in the New York area. And somehow I ended up on New York City’s Second Chance Rescue’s website and spotted Harold. He looked like a dirty white pocket pit mix with the most exceptional snaggletooth.

His character kind of jumped through the page and I decided to email for more info and then went to meet him in Brooklyn at his foster mom’s house. Harold was found by an animal control officer abandoned in a field in Georgia with a thick collar and a hook around his neck. He was heartworm positive, had whipworm and a respiratory infection.

The Fulton County animal shelter takes in so many animals, but someone there saw something special in this sweet boy and saved him from being euthanized. He named him Harold after his grandfather. And of course, I kept the name because I think it suits him so well. The shelter contacted Second Chance Rescue, who pulled him and got him all the medical attention he needed from the famous Dr. Terry and her team at Dreamhouse dog rehab. Once strong enough, Harold made his way to the New York area where he was fostered. And then just like that, I adopted him and the rest is history. He’s living his best life now and makes us all so happy with his goofy shenanigans and his silly idiosyncrasies.
