Chinese humanitarian aid, including COVID-19 vaccines and food has arrived in Kabul on Wednesday.
800,000 Sinopharm vaccines and food are part of the aid package worth at least €28 million ($30 million) provided by the Chinese to Afghanistan ahead of the winter, which is projected to see a food shortage.
Deputy Minister of Public Health Abdulbari Omer was joined by Chinese ambassador to Afghanistan Wang Yu, who said “China has announced that the first batch is 200 million RNB. And then a few days ago we also have announced in addition to the 200 million RNB, we have announced in another 30 million RNB.”
Various planes could be seen landing at the airport while vehicles were unloading cargo.
According to Wang Yu, the humanitarian aid included food, blankets, cotton clothing, shoes and vaccination doses.
United Nations estimates at least half of Afghanistan’s population, 23 million people, will be affected by the food shortage this winter.
