Afghanistan: Deadly roadside bombing kills child and Taliban fighters in Kabul

At least one child and one Taliban soldier have died in a roadside bombing in Kabul on Sunday. Four Taliban fighters were reported injured.

Debris could be seen around the blast site, with the windows of nearby buildings and shops severely damaged by what police said was an improvised bomb planted along the road.

Eyewitness Mohammad Abullah said he was sitting in his shop when the explosion went off: “When I came outside one person was dead, there was a child.”
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS, ISIL) has previously been behind several similar bombings in Afghanistan in recent months.

SOT, Qari Jawed, Security post guard (Pashto): “It was around 10am that we were stood at the checkpoint and somebody was on patrol. Suddenly the explosion went off. When we came near, we were shot at from the left and right side of the street.”

SOT, Qari Jawed, Security post guard (Pashto): “Two people were killed including one Mujahedeen and one child that we don’t know. Two people were wounded from our Mujahedeen.

SOT, Mohammad Abullah, Eyewitness (Pashto): “I have a shop there and I was sitting here when the explosion happened. When I came outside one person was killed, that was a child. The moment it went off, I escaped.”

SOT, Wahedullah, Eyewitness (Pashto): “It was around 10am that the security vehicle was stood here that it targeted by explosion. My shop was destroyed, when the explosion happened. I was in shop and I had bad situation at that time. The vehicles were destroyed and there were the shootings.”
