Health workers administered the polio vaccine to children in Kabul, on Monday, as part of the first vaccination campaign since the Taliban took over the country.

Health workers were seen going from door to door in pairs to administer the vaccine.

According to Toryaly Yousofzai, a polio immunisation officer, a total of 7,136 health volunteers were deployed in Kabul province to vaccinate about 1.3 million eligible children.

According to data gathered by the World Health Organization before the collapse of the Western-backed government in August, Afghanistan had one confirmed case of polio in 2021 compared to 56 the previous year.
