Heavy rains and flooding have already caused flooding in metro Denver, but more is expected overnight.

The Colorado Department of Transportation reports that southbound lanes of I-25 near 23rd Avenue have been closed due to washed out mud and debris. Crews with plows are on the scene clearing debris.

Severe thunderstorms were reported 20 miles southwest of Denver. Quarter-sized hail was predicted to fall in the area, which includes Roxborough Park. Pea-sized hail fell in downtown Denver this afternoon.

The Denver Fire Department and its dive team responded to the area of West 38th Avenue and Fox Street because of a flooded vehicle near the I-25 underpass. The dive team found no one in the car, and fire officials urged motorists not to drive through standing or flowing water.

At Denver International Airport, thunderstorms with high winds and hail caused long and massive flight delays. Airport officials said travelers faced delays of up to two hours due to weather conditions.
