Argentina: Cemeteries prepare new graves in Buenos Aires as COVID-related deaths surpass 100,000

Gravediggers in the Argentine capital city of Buenos Aires were seen digging up new graves to make room for fatal victims of the novel coronavirus as the country reported more than 100,000 linked deaths.

Rows of freshly dug up graves were caught on drone footage in Chacarita cemetery, the largest in Argentina, and Flores cemetery, on Wednesday.

“100,000 people died, there are 100,000 families who are in a critical moment. I believe that this would not have happened if a vaccine had been obtained earlier,” stated Luis Morales, a local resident.

Infectologist and member of the Argentine Society of Infectious Diseases said, “We have more than four million cases of people notified with COVID-19. This number is to be expected in a context of no vaccines, shortage of tests and the relaxation of the restriction measures.”

According to the Argentine Health Ministry, Argentina reported 614 casualties in the past 24 hours, raising the total number of related deaths to 100,250.
