Following the defeat of the ruling Peronist government in the midterm primaries, at least seven ministers of Argentine President Alberto Fernandez’s cabinet presented their resignation on Wednesday in Buenos Aires.
With a 67 percent turnout at the Primary, Open, Simultaneous and Mandatory (PASO) elections, Interior Minister Eduardo ‘Wado’ de Pedro, Justice Minister Martin Soria, Minister of Science and Technology, Roberto Salvarezza, Culture Minister Tristan Bauer, Environment Minister Juan Cabandie along with the head of the Comprehensive Medical Attention Program (PAMI) Luana Volnovich all resigned. The aforementioned ministers respond to Vice President Cristina Kirchner.
The defeat could indicate a losing grip on the congress for the ruling centre-left party, stirring tensions in the Frente Para Todos party with the upcoming vote in November.
The centre-right opposition party Juntos por el Cambio (Together for Change) had the most significant win since its formation in 2015.
