Argentina: Fmr president Macri attends court hearing amidst spying allegations

Former president Mauricio Macri was seen arriving in a court in Dolores on Wednesday to testify in an ongoing case where it is alleged his government illegally spied on the relatives of 44 sailors who died in the sinking of the ARA San Juan Navy submarine.
Macri was greeted by dozens of supporters waiting outside of the court.
“They did not find a folder on Macri with transcripts of illegal wiretapping in the possession of anyone, nor did Mauricio Macri spy or send to spy,” explained Macri’s Lawyer Pablo Lanusse.
“They (the authorities) followed us, they have intervened on us, they have made us profiles for at least one year, in a systematic and organised way, that is proven,” said Luis Tagliapietra, a relative of one of the submarine accident victims.
The accusations of espionage made against Macri were first formally filed in 2020 by the director of Argentina’s Federal Intelligence Agency.

It seems to me that Alberto Fernandez is a little closer to it, he should get on with governing and do a bit more serious work and not pollute such a delicate cause.”
