Argentina: Pro and anti-govt protesters rally outside Cuban embassy in Buenos Aires

Pro and anti-government protesters gathered with signs and banners outside the Cuban embassy in Buenos Aires, on Wednesday.

Cubans living in exile in Argentina were also present, showing their support for the Cuban’s still living in inside the country and condemning the government.

“Cubans who have done everything in a peaceful way are the ones who in the end are shedding their blood and right now there are a lot of disappeared, prisoners, all typical of a dictatorship and they are not anti-riot forces that shoot with rubber bullets, they are dictatorship forces that shoot with lead bullets,” stated Willlians Vivanco, a Buenos Aires resident.

The city police had set up a cordon to prevent possible clashes that could break out between demonstrators and counter-protesters.

SOT, Mariano del Popolo, Expert of International Relations (Spanish): “There is a very strong accretion against Cuba and acts of solidarity are being generated here in Argentina and throughout Latin America and throughout the world. We see people who are mobilising as in Cuba right now there are thousands and thousands of people mobilising in favour of the revolution Cuban here and around the world we are also showing solidarity.”

SOT, Mariano del Popolo, Expert of International Relations (Spanish): “The popular processes in Latin America are strong, they are growing, the popular mobilisation in Latin America is growing and the position of the United States in Latin America is weakened, so that means that there is how I tell you an attack, an investment against Cuba, an investment against Venezuela and the medium also what happens is that the United States reinforces the blockade against Cuba.”

SOT, Rolando Querra, Resident (Spanish): “Just kidnappings from their own homes, they are kidnapping those who rose up demanding their rights, we want freedom of expression, we want dignity, we want a free Cuba, do not trample us any more, we are not exiled Cubans fighting for the freedom of an oppressed people.”

SOT, Willlians Vivanco, Resident (Spanish): “And right now it is being repressed by Cuban force who are armed to the teeth, and the Cubans who have done everything in a peaceful way are the ones who in the end are shedding their blood and right now there are a lot of disappeared, prisoners, all typical of a dictatorship and they are not anti-riot forces that shoot with rubber bullets, they are dictatorship forces that shoot with lead bullets.”
