Thousands of people took to the streets of Buenos Aires on Monday for the second day of mobilisation for Peronist Loyalty Day.

Crowds of people, mainly organised by the General Confederation of Labour (CGT), the country’s largest trade union, marched through the Argentine capital under the slogan “Development, production, and work.”

This was the second consecutive day of mobilisation on the anniversary of the demonstration that demanded the release of leader Juan Domingo Peron on 17 October 1945, giving birth to Peronism.

The aim of the march was to show support for the government of Alberto Fernandez, but also to underline the changes needed to improve the situation in the country.

“I believe that it is the path of every activity to find the consensus and agreements to overcome this instance and give back dignity to the people and have decent work as we say, to return to the culture of work”, declared Jose Luis Lingeri, general secretary of SGBATOS trade union.

The president of the Argentinean government, Alberto Fernandez, and the vice-president, Cristina de Kirchner, were not present at either of the two demonstrations.

SOT, Jose Luis Lingeri, general secretary of SGBATOS (Spanish): “We are worried about everything, unemployment, inflation, poverty, that is what we are working for, different government measures are being taken to overcome them, but the only reality is that we have to have genuine jobs to leave aside all the subsidies and support that the government has been giving”.

SOT, Jose Luis Lingeri, General secretary of SGBATOS (Spanish): “I believe that it is the path of each activity to find consensus and agreements to overcome this instance and give back dignity to the people and to have dignified work as we say, to return to the culture of work.”
