Battle of Seattle: Protesters Prepare to Defend CHOP Against Returning Seattle Police

The festival atmosphere inside Seattle’s autonomous zone - variously dubbed the CHAZ or CHOP - has started to sour. Three separate shooting incidents have occurred since the weekend, with the police barred from entering the Capitol Hill neighbourhood by protesters.

Mayor Jenny Durkan, who was initially supportive of the encampment, has now said Seattle PD will return to the abandoned East Precinct and force the occupiers to leave.

But those calling the shots in the autonomous zone have said attempts to remove them will be resisted. It’s set up the possibility for more violent clashes between police and protesters.
