Rescue efforts are continuing in Beirut after a massive explosion killed more than 100 people.

The huge blast occurred near the port of the Lebanese capital, and rocked the entire city injuring at least 5,000.

Lebanon has declared a state of emergency, and put a number of port officials under house arrest.

Authorities said the explosion was caused by 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate, which had been stored unsecured in a warehouse near the port for six years.

Several people have been rescued alive from under the rubble, as rescue teams continue to look for bodies and survivors.

It’s estimated at least 3,000 people have been left homeless as a result of the explosion.
