Belarusian medics from the Grodno branch of the ‘Belarusian Prosthetic and Orthopedic Rehabilitation Centre’ on Saturday helped disabled boy Nathan, a refugee from the Kurdish Autonomous Region of Iraq. The boy and his family were taken from the migrant camp in Bruzgi at the border with Poland to the medical centre for specialised care.
“The knee knot has suffered from the exploitation. We adjusted it partially. Here, in field conditions, we can’t do anything else. The prosthesis has to be adjusted, we have to go and take a look. Maybe we need to replace the adapter, but we’ll be able to find out in the clinic,” said Director of the hospital’s branch Valery Vetkovski.
Earlier, Belorussian EMERCOM organised hot meals for pregnant women and minors of the refugee camp. Heating devices were installed in the tents, and children and their mothers were given fruit and candies. In the evening, unconfirmed information emerged that Germany was allegedly ready to let refugees into its territory, which caused delight in the camp.

On Saturday, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko asked to rationalise and organise the delivery and distribution of humanitarian aid to the refugees at the border.

Volunteer (Russian): “The speed and quality of assistance will depend on organisation, because some spontaneous moments occur. It seems there is an understanding; parents are ready to pay attention now to help the children. Products are not just those that are on the table, with supplies. Now in an organised way we will let the children in.” *UPSOUND*

SOT, Valery Vetkovsky, Director of branch of Belarusian Prosthetic and Orthopedic Restoration Centre: “The knee knot has suffered from the exploitation. We adjusted it partially. Here, in field conditions, we can’t do anything else. The prosthesis has to be adjusted, we have to go and take a look. Maybe we need to replace the adapter, but we’ll be able to find out in the clinic.”

Victor Liskovich, Chairperson of Standing Commission of Council of Republic of National Assembly of Republic of Belarus for Education, Science, Culture and Social Development (Russian): “In order to provide high-quality help to the child, the parents agreed to go to a competent institution. Our Belarusian specialists will fix the prosthesis there, and then return the child to the camp with his parents. With mom or dad will go another child, a second child. We allow it for the family to stay together.”
