The joint Belarus-Russia Zapad 2021 strategic military exercises continue in Brest and Kaliningrad region, as seen from footage released by the Russian Defence Ministry on Wednesday.

According to the Russian MoD, the artillery of the two countries jointly destroyed “strong points and critical objects of the conditional enemy” at the Obuz-Lesnovsky training ground in Belarus.

Around 300 military personnel and 100 equipment took part in the exercise, during which the troops attacked over 200 targets, the ministry said.

Meanwhile, at the Pravdinsky training ground in Russia’s Kaliningrad region, some 300 paratroopers and 12 amphibious combat vehicles were airdropped to the training field.

The Zapad-2021 military exercises are underway from September 10 to 16, at nine training grounds across both countries. The drills will see over 800 pieces of military equipment put through their paces, such as the Uran-9 and Nerekhta combat robots.

Around 200,000 individuals, including some 2,000 service members from member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO), Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), and other nations participate in the exercises.
