Belgium: European Council meet for second day of Brussels summit

The European Council, including French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen met in Brussels for the second day of the European Council summit.

The European Council was expected to use this summit to tackle two pressing issues, the ongoing energy crisis and the Polish challenge to EU law. It is rare for the European Council, which consists of the highest supreme political authority of the European Union, to not focus on long-term issues however the immediacy of these two subjects pushed them to the front of the agenda.
