Hundreds of migrants camping out at the Church of St. John the Baptist at the Beguinage in Brussels have suspended their hunger strike on Wednesday after reaching a deal with Belgium’s coalition government.

The protesters, who had been on a hunger strike for almost two months, are seeking formal residency status after living for several years in the country.

A large crowd of people gathered outside the church to show support to the migrants with loud applause.

Emergency workers, who continue to be on-site to monitor the situation, were seen carrying a few people on stretchers outside of the church.

A group representative reportedly said they decided to end their thirst strike and suspend their hunger strike in the wake of the deal. The exact terms of the agreement are not known by the public yet.
