Big cats! Istanbul strays HUGELY welcomed beside scale models at Miniaturk Park

Stray cats in the Beyoglu district of Istanbul have been wandering around in the city’s Miniaturk Park on Saturday, delighting visitors at the cultural site, which portraits most of Turkey’s historical buildings but on a small scale. Children and parents enjoy visiting the open-air miniature park on Golden Horn, where cats play around the models, looking like giant but cuddling beasts.

Miniaturk Park, the world’s largest miniature park, has more than 100 models of local landmarks and Ottoman structures all created at 1/25th of the original size.

“Since our models are small in scale, it is a different experience for our visitors to see cats coming out of the models and wandering around them. They come out like monsters from inside the models,” said Miniaturk Park’s Director Esra Manavogulları. “It attracts the attention of both children and adults a lot. We are very happy to work with cats. As we said, they are family members of here, they have been around here longer than us.”

Miniaturk, a fantastic kids-friendly attraction spread over an area of 60,000 square meters, has become a showcase of Turkey with the slogan of “A Small Model of a Big Country”.

“To see the cats with the Miniaturk is very very exciting. Why? Because sometimes you see the cats as big as the houses, so it is very different and we really like it,” commented Samil, a visitor.
