Thousands of devotees were seen queuing up at the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora Aparecida (Our Lady Aparecida) in Aparecida on Tuesday to honour the country’s patron, for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic.
Attendees can be seen congregating outside the church, as only a limited number of people were allowed in at the same time. Inside, worshippers prayed, lit up candles, and took pictures of the Statue of Aparecida.
One worshipper named Erica said: “We are here because of COVID-19, to thanks that we are all healthy, and alive. So I feel nothing better than being thankful, to be here on our patron day.”

SOT, Rodrigo, Worshipper (Portuguese): “Thank god, after a year seeing this packed is so good, its all over. So people came here to say thanks and show faith, we made this. Today is to be thankful, pray and go home rest.”
