Crowds of protesters gathered outside the Turkish Embassy, Sofia, on Thursday, amid accusations that the country interfered in Bulgaria’s recent runoff elections.
Police could be seen monitoring the demonstration, whilst participants threw tomatoes towards the embassy building and sang patriotic songs.
Earlier on Thursday, the Turkish Foreign Ministry summoned Bulgaria’s Turkish envoy over election interference claims. Turkey rejects all allegations.

SOT, Dionissii, Priest (Bulgarian): “I know that Erdogan has an ambition, to be the leader of the Islamic world. A dream that didn’t become true. But actually it is totally unacceptable the outrageous way he is pretending to influence the Balkans. And this behavior cannot be accepted without any reaction.“
