Hundreds of football fans gathered in Yaounde, on Monday, for an open air fan mile to support their national football team in the final group stage match of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) against Cape Verde.

Hundreds of fans dressed or decorated in Cameroon’s characteristic national colors celebrated in front of a screen with a live broadcast of the soccer match on chairs or partly standing.

SOT, Football fan (French): “As you can see, Cameroon is playing and we’re very proud to know that Cameroon is ahead by one goal. Compared to the competition, we think it has been a great [inaudible] to organise it, already, and we’re very proud that the authorities of our country enable us to find this event, which goes to the hearts and strengthens the ties between Cameroonians.”

SOT, Football fan (French): “It takes a long time to leave work and get to the stadium, but we invite Cameroonians who can to head to the stadium, rush to the stadium to support our national team and give them all the energy needed to push them very high and for us to be able to celebrate together.”
