Chief of the Williams Lake First Nation Willie Sellars gave a press conference at Williams Lake on Wednesday, in which he stated that a ‘truthful account must be told’ regarding 93 recently-discovered potential graves near a British Columbian school.

“The real of story what occurred at the St Joseph’s mission has been intentionally obscured. There’s clear evidence that religious entities, the federal government, and the RCMP have knowingly participated in the destruction of records in the cover up of criminal allegations,” said Sellars.

“A truthful account must be told of the former students residential school experience, acknowledging the harm of colonial educational practises, recognizing the former students intrinsic right to the cultural and spiritual practises outlawed by government and religious institutions, and by restoring the familial history loss at the grounds of the mission,” Sellars continued.

The school had operated in the province of British Columbia between 1891 and 1981.
