The Aristarchus crater on the Moon is about is 40 kilometres in diameter and 2700 metres deep. The central peak is 3000 metres wide (left-to-right) and 400 metres tall. The image was acquired by NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter from an altitude of 96 kilometres.
