Child wears shirt to school saying she'd been abused Woman arrested for beating girl with a belt BROOKSVILLE, Fla. - Shaming your child by putting them in a T-shirt announcing what they’ve done wrong is questionable parenting at best. But there is no question about the kind of abuse investigators say they discovered Friday at West Hernando Middle School. Hernando County Sheriff Al Neinhuis read to us the words Melany Alexander told deputies she wrote in black marker on a white shirt -- a shirt the victim wore to school on Friday. “Back off before I get another good whooping like I got last night," one line on the shirt reads. "My eating French fries and being a social butterfly is over because I know why my parents send me to school," another line reads. "I now know the importance of my education, I will learn.” The shirt, which also said the child couldn’t have any friends until her grades improved, obviously got the attention of authorities. They then discovered the girl had been beaten with a belt, leaving bruises on her legs, neck and back. The sheriff said Alexander admitted she crossed the line while dishing out discipline. “They were obviously seeing red when they did this, and it’s disappointing because it’s a child that’s being effected,” Neinhuis said. Millie Strmensky has a granddaughter at West Hernando Middle. She said there is no reason to take discipline this far.
