A vaccination centre at Santiago’s La Florida bicentennial stadium began to administer AstraZeneca booster doses to elderly patients on Wednesday. The third jab is initially available to those over the age of 86, who have previously been vaccinated with Sinovac’s COVID-19 vaccine.

“I got up early to be able to come to the third (jab), because at least with the others we have been super good so with this one I think we are ready,” said Francisco Sepulveda, a patient at the vaccination centre.

The booster doses are set to become available to other age groups later in the week; however, these will be limited to the elderly for the time-being.
According to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, the country has administered 26,285,490 doses with 67 percent of the population vaccinated so far.
