China: FM slams US for Afghanistan "failure"

Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Wang Wenbin implored the United States to “learn from its lessons,” regarding the end of the 20-year-war in Afghanistan, during a press conference on Thursday.

Wang criticised the US for ‘imposing’ democracy on outside nations.

“All countries have the right to independently explore development paths that suit their national and actual conditions,” Wang stressed, adding, “the situation in Afghanistan shows that any practice of transplanting and imposing a democratic model from the outside will only bring chaos and turmoil, and ultimately end in failure.”

Wang further urged the US to “stop selling its own ideology and values, stop military intervention in other countries at will, stop creating divisions and confrontations in the world under the name of human rights, and avoid the mistakes in Afghanistan happening in other countries again.”

The United States officially concluded its 20-year deployment in Afghanistan on August 30.
