Staff from the International Testing Committee (ITA) were seen walking in and out of the Beijing Continental Grand Hotel, where the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is holding a hearing on whether to reinstate the suspension of 15-year-old Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, on Saturday.

The ITA released a statement confirming Valieva had provided a sample containing the banned substance trimetazidine during the 2022 Russian Figure Skating Championships in Saint Petersburg on December 25.

The appeal is part of an urgent hearing convened by CAS, which will decide whether 15-year-old Valieva will be able to compete in her next event scheduled for Tuesday.

According to the Russian Olympic Committee, the positive doping test of 15 years-old Valieva does not apply to the period of the Olympic Games and the figure skater repeatedly passed doping tests before and after December 25, including the period when she was in Beijing during the figure skating competition, and all results were negative.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced on Wednesday that the medal ceremony for figure skaters would be delayed due to “legal issues.”
