China: Mass testing underway in Chengdu after 3 local COVID cases found

Mass tests were underway in Chengdu on Sunday, after three domestic cases of COVID-19 were confirmed earlier this week in an eastern district of the city, in Western China’s Sichuan Province.

On July 28, Chengdu Epidemic Prevention and Control Headquarters decided to immediately start with nucleic acid testing at Tianfu Airport and on some streets in the eastern New District. Medical staff from different corner of the city was provided to process the mass testing.

Locals could be seen queueing at the testing station at the People’s Hospital of Tianfu New District on Saturday, providing there data to administrative staff and getting tested.

The Chinese government has reacted quickly to local outbreaks with immediate mass tests, exit restrictions, contact tracing, and quarantine. Strict restrictions also apply to those entering the country who have to be in a quarantine facility for at least two weeks.
