The starting day of the three-day event was held at National Speed Skating Oval and saw Dutch athlete Sophie Kraaijeveld win the women’s 3,000 metres, 2018 world bronze medalist Kim Jun-ho from South Korea getting gold in the men’s 500 metres with Youth Olympic champion Isabel Grevelt from Netherlands taking gold in the women’s 500 metres race. South Korea’s Chung Yang-hun took gold in the men’s 5,000 metres.
Similar test events are expected to be held until the end of this year with the Speed Skating China Open event scheduled to continue for two more days.

OT, Tim Prins, Dutch speed skating athlete: “The skaters will skate here in next year’s Olympics, having an important qualifying about two weeks for the World Cups so they can’t be here. The Netherlands sent our own juniors here to see what’s going on here, to exercise and to do everything here so I think that’s the reason we are going here, to see what’s going on next year at the Olympics.”
SOT, Tim Prins, Dutch speed skating athlete: “Normally, there were some people in the stadium but last year we also did it without. I think it will give you a boost if there are people in the stadium making some cheering up. I think it will really make a difference, what I said was last year it was also weird without public so we are a bit used to it.”
SOT, Seon-Kyo Jeong, Korean speed skating athlete (Korean): “When there are spectators cheering for us, we will be more inspired and more energetic.”
