Thousands of travellers were seen at Shenzhen Railway Station on Friday, as the country’s ‘Golden Week’ holiday period began.
Passenger Mr Chen stated that it had been difficult to buy a train ticket online. When he’d managed, Chen said that he was unable to get a direct train back to his hometown, due to the influx in travellers.
Due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak in Fujian and Harbin, passengers were required to show health QR codes in order to travel.
‘Golden Week’ is annually celebrated to coincide with China National Day on October 1, with Chinese people enjoying a seven-day holiday.
One major Chinese travel website forecasted 650 million trips will be taken this year, a figure 20 percent lower than the 782 million trips made in 2019, before the pandemic began.
