‘Chinese Rocket Crashes in Indian Ocean After Uncontrolled Re-Entry’

A large section of an out-of-control Chinese rocket has crashed into the Indian Ocean.

The rocket re-entered Earth’s atmosphere over the Arabian Peninsula at 10:24 Beijing time before making impact just west of the Maldives, according to Chinese officials.

Many people in Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Oman spotted the flash of falling debris. Chinese state media insisted the majority of the rocket burned up on re-entry.

The Long March 5B launched in April carrying the core module of China’s new space station. But the rocket booster unintentionally went into orbit, beginning an uncontrolled re-entry.
