Thousands of protesters took to the streets of cities across Chile to mark the one-year anniversary of mass demonstration against inequality.

Dramatic footage captured a church’s spire burning and collapsing after demonstrators set fire to two churches in the Chilean capital Santiago.

As protests turned violent, police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse crowds.

Protesters are urging Chilean citizens to vote in favour of a new constitution in an upcoming referendum.
