‘Colombia Protests: Police Stations Besieged as Unrest Leaves 24 Dead’

A number of police stations in Colombia’s capital Bogotá have been attacked as nationwide protests enter a second week.

At least 24 people have reportedly died since the protests began.

The United Nations’ human rights office has accused Colombian security forces of using excessive force.
Protests began last Wednesday, with people demonstrating against a proposed tax reform.

Demonstrations have continued in Colombia’s major cities, even though its president announced that he would withdraw the reform.

The umbrella group which called for last week’s protest said the withdrawal was not enough, and that it also wants improvements to pension, health and education systems.
