Cuba: Maduro visits the island to commemorate fifth anniversary of Fidel Castro's death

President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro participated in the inauguration of a study centre that has been named after Fidel Castro, in commemoration of the fifth anniversary of his death, in Havana on Thursday.

The ceremony was also attended by the current president of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel, and his predecessor in office, Raul Castro.

This new centre stores different documents and works on the life of the late leader.

Fidel Castro Ruz was born on August 13, 1926 in Biran. After the success of the Cuban Revolution, Castro transformed the island into a one-party socialist republic. From 1976 to 2008 he served as president of the Councils of State and Ministers, and as supreme commander-in-chief of the Revolutionary Armed Forces.
