Czech Republic: Daughter of detained Russian linked to Crimean annexation appeals for his release

The Daughter of Alexander Franchetti, a Russian National detained in Prague due to links to the 2014 annexation of Crimea, has called for her father’s immediate release, as seen on Wednesday.
Franchetti’s daughter, Dia, called for her father to be removed ‘ASAP’ from jail, and alleged that he is suffering from an illness which requires treatment from the Russian Federation.
“He didn’t [go] against the laws in Ukraine, in the Czech Republic or in Russia. He never did that. He never went against the law,” Franchetti continued.
Franchetti’s arrest took place on Sunday at Prague’s international airport, according to the Russian embassy, with local media outlets speculating that the Russian’s detention may be linked to his participation in events relating to Crimea’s reunification with Russia.
On Monday, Ukraine sent a request for Franchetti’s extradition, with Russia requesting the Czech Republic to establish the circumstances of Franchetti’s detention the following day.

It’s not an official jail, he’s gonna be [contained] there for some time. He is being like fed all the time, three times a day, he has water, we can get him anything he needs like shampoos and books, and [a] tooth brush, everything like that. We have [a] right to see him at least once a week or once [every] two weeks.”

And of course I really want to say one point which is really important. He has a sickness, and that sickness is really not recommended to be [contained] because he has a bone sickness and it’s like his own immune system is fighting himself.”

SOT, Dia Franchetti, Daughter of arrested Russian National Alexander Franchetti: “Only having his pills and his drops and his injections is not enough. He needs to be removed, ASAP (as soon as possible), he has to be removed to the Russian Federation, or to a home comfort zone so his stress levels can [lower] down, because no matter how many times they will feed him, how many times the doctor will visit him, the doctors here do not really understand his sickness that well, and they can’t hospitalise him and help him in a way that [they can] in Russia. And plus, if anything bad would happen, like death or seizure or anything, [the] Czech Republic will be responsible for that. If he is sent to [the] Russian Federation, Russian Federation is responsible for that. So, he needs to be hospitalised, no matter how good they treat him, and no matter how bad they treat [him].”

SOT, Dia Franchetti, Daughter of arrested Russian National Alexander Franchetti: “The treatment is good, they are being nice to him. I saw him today. He was smiley. He was like a warrior. He was sure that everything will be okay. I still saw that he’s shaky, that his hands are getting bigger, his hands are swollen completely, and he is really walking weakly. But still, he is with the soul of a warrior so he’s still standing and he’s 100% sure that we are going to help him, you are going to help him and all of us are going to help and be there for him.”

SOT, Dia Franchetti, Daughter of arrested Russian National Alexander Franchetti: “So, in 2014, 2013, when my dad was in [Crimea], he was casually living there with his girlfriend and the child of the girlfriend and he really took them as a family, he knew those people for a long time, so he was just living there. And then, there was this problem between Russia [and] Ukraine.”

SOT, Dia Franchetti, Daughter of arrested Russian National Alexander Franchetti: “He doesn’t like violence, he doesn’t like violence, he can teach you how to fight when it’s necessary, when it’s [a] life or death situation, but he hates violence. He loves his country, he loves his people, he loves [the] Czech Republic. He loves everything. He’s a positive person who just doesn’t like injustice.”

SOT, Dia Franchetti, Daughter of arrested Russian National Alexander Franchetti: “In Russia, people, not maybe everyone, but people respect him, and people know him as a hero. He has five or six medals that were gifted by big people in [Crimea], not just in [Crimea], in Russia, in general, and he’s a respectable man, and he didn’t cancel anything. He didn’t [go] against the laws in Ukraine, in Czech Republic, or in Russia. He never did that, he never went against the law, never.”
