Heavy rain and strong winds hit the Houston area on Saturday, including afternoon thunderstorms. The National Meteorological Service reported that wind gusts of up to 40 miles per hour were observed in some areas. Flood warnings have been in effect in areas in southeast Texas since heavy thunderstorms hit the region on Saturday. In Montgomery County, a series of intense storms on Saturday morning uprooted trees, scattered debris and even cut power lines. The National Weather Service later confirmed that a tornado hit the northeastern county. They said the tornado had been tentatively rated EF-1 and had an approximate track length of 2 miles and a width of 100 yards. The Montgomery County Emergency Management Authority confirmed that a tornado warning was issued at around 10:30 am. Various teams worked around the clock to safely repair the damage.
According to residents, everything happened in a matter of minutes. “He hit us hard, sounded like a freight train. Then it was dark, ”said local resident Jimmy Edwards. “When the windows and doors began to crack, I realized that we had problems.” Fortunately, no one was injured and no major structural damage was reported. Cleaning and renovation is expected in the next few days.
