Def minister Kishi welcomes Dutch and British navy ships at Yokosuka amid South China Sea tensions

Japanese Defence Minister Nobuo Kishi and Dutch ambassador to Japan Peter van der Fliet welcomed the arrival of a Dutch navy ship at the US naval base in Yokosuka on Monday.
The vessel arrived in a week after HMS Queen Elizabeth - Britain’s largest and most powerful warship - also docked in Japan as China’s growing military influence in the South China Sea has sparked concerns in Tokyo and Washington.
“The Ministry of Defense and the Self-Defense Forces will continue to actively contribute to regional peace and stability by working together with countries that share our fundamental values and strategic interests to maintain and strengthen a free and open Indo-Pacific region and to address global security challenges,” Kushi told the press, before visiting both vessels.
