Commemorating 77 years since the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany, recent events have made this year’s celebration all the more poignant.

President Vladimir Putin presided over a huge commemorative military parade featuring military personnel, hardware, and aircraft.

It’s an emotional public holiday for many Russians whose parents and grandparents were among the 27 million Soviets who died in the Second World War.
