Deformed baby goat fights to survive

The day after Christmas, I was contacted about a baby goat who was rejected by her mother because of some limb deformities. She was all the way in Georgia. And all I did was put out some feelers, some urgency saying that we needed help with transport and three amazing women jumped up. And within a few hours, the first one rearranged her schedule and was on her way to Georgia to pick her up. We ended up picking her up in Delaware. And that was the middle of the night. Then we arrived back at home probably 7:00 AM. It was a very long night. But we got her home safe and sound and we decided that she was the sweetest thing on Earth and she was from Georgia, so we named her Peaches.

She is doing very well. The first week we were sort of trying to figure out the extent of her deformities. We did some x-rays, they showed some spinal deformities similar to a person with scoliosis and also definitely some contracted tendons in her front legs. 

We took her up to Tufts University. They agreed and they gave us the go-ahead to start aggressive physical therapy. We have been doing that. We are working with Arch Orthopedics and they are making her custom braces. We’re hoping that the braces will do their job and help her legs grow straight. 

She is a super sweet girl. When we first got her, she couldn’t even stand on her own. Now she’s walking and bouncing around our living room, on the carpet and playing with the cat and as chatty as ever. It’s really heartwarming to see her come so far in such a short period of time.
