‘Duke of Edinburgh, Husband of Queen Elizabeth II, Dies Aged 99’

Prince Philip, the Queen’s husband of 73 years, has passed away at Windsor Castle aged 99.

In a statement released on Friday, Buckingham Palace announced: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.

“Further announcements will made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”

Flags have been lowered to half mast at official buildings across the country, and Prime Minister Boris Johnson joined thousands around the world in paying tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh.
