Ecuador: Blinken applauds nation's COVID efforts after meeting with newly-elected President Lasso

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso and Foreign Minister Mauricio Montalvo in Quito on Tuesday.
The secretary of state praised Ecuador’s COVID-19 efforts.
“COVID-19, as I mentioned, we know how hard it hit Ecuador early. But you turned it around, and Ecuadorians have a major vaccination campaign, one of the best executed in the world,” remarked Blinken.
Blinken also discussed Ecuador’s recent economic reforms and the reopening of the Open Skies agreement which would liberalise all sectors of commercial air travel.
“We’ve also agreed to reopen negotiations on an Open Skies agreement which will promote more travel and trade between us,” he stated.
Blinken is currently on his ‘Democracy tour’ of Latin America and is to head to Colombia on Wednesday to meet with Colombian President Ivan Duque.
