Several football fans reacted to Egypt’s defeat to Senegal in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final on Sunday evening after watching the game on a screen in Cairo.
Many fans remained quiet and were visibly sad as the game progressed and the team struggled. Despite the general sadness, some fans were still proud of their team’s performance.
“The players did what they had to, and they were champions from the beginning of the tournament,” said Mostafa Ahmed, an Egyptian fan.
Egypt lost by penalty kicks against Senegal.
Senegalese player Sadio Mane drilled the decisive penalty, beating his Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah, playing for Egypt.
The Senegalese team won its first African Cup of Nations title.
