Elephants dressed in Christmas costumes and accompanied by Santa greeted school children at the Jirasaat Wittaya school in Ayutthaya about 80 kilometres (49 miles) north of capital Bangkok on Friday.

The elephants could be seen bringing candy and presents for the children and meeting with students and staff at a school assembly.

“It is so amazing, it is so beautiful and the elephant is enormous,” Prow, a student at the school commented.

During the ceremony, organisers alongside traditional dancers performed for the children and allowed the children to meet the elephants.

SOT, Robert, Participant: “I thought it was interesting. They brought the elephants down, they had the assembly, they asked me to be Santa, so I was Santa today. It was kind of fun you know, I thought it was cool.”

SOT, May, Organizer: “We are so glad to be here and see the festival here. so glad for the elephants who came to join and celebrate with others and the students.”

SOT, Prow, Student: “This Christmas day is my favourite Christmas. It is my favourite day, because it is a good day, it has presents, candy and chocolates. I like this.”

SOT, Prow, Student: “It is so amazing, it is so beautiful and the elephant is enormous.”
