The European Space Agency’s (ESA) Euclid mission was launched by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, on 1 July 2023, at 15:12 UTC (11:12 EDT). The Euclid space telescope is designed to explore the evolution of the “dark Universe” (dark energy and dark matter). Following stage separation, Falcon 9’s first stage landed on the “A Shortfall of Gravitas” droneship, stationed in the Atlantic Ocean. Falcon 9’s first stage (B1080) previously supported the Ax-2 mission.
