If you type a date with a two digit year, Excel treats anything up to 29 as being 2029. Once you get to 30, though, they assume you mean 1930. With 2030 only eight years away, it might be time to adjust this.

Update!!! If you leave the setting at 2049, Excel won’t respect the setting. You have to change it, even to 2050 and then it starts to work. You can change it to 2050, click OK, Test it, then Change it back to 2049 and it works. Apparently, if you never touch the setting, leaving it at 2049, then Excel keeps using the 2029 rule.
