Ecstatic hockey fans in Helsinki celebrated Finland’s historic win at the Beijing Winter Olympics on Sunday.

Millions in Finland were glued to their screens to watch the game that won the country it’s first gold medal in men’s team hockey, winning against Russia’s team with a score of 2-1.

Fans were seen celebrating in Helsinki’s downtown market square, donning Finnish flags, hockey t-shirts and climbing onto the legendary Havis Amanda statue.

SOT, Markus, Hockey fan: “This is just unbelievable, everybody has been waiting for this for ages, and now the team was great, five games, five wins. We were hands down the best team in the tournament and we deserved the gold. It is just unbelievable, just unbelievable.”

SOT, Mika, Hockey fan: “Well, it’s like in the World Championships but it seems to be kind of sophisticated, there are not so many drunk people and not that many jerseys, but I think it is gonna be good after two hours, so it is going to be a good party here.”

SOT, Mika, Hockey fan: “Well, actually we don’t have any plans, it’s Sunday, nice weather, so we are just hanging here for a while and then we take a kind of medal coffee, coffee for the medals, as that’s a tradition, then we just have a normal Sunday evening.”
