First transgender school in country opens in Punjab

The first Pakistani government-run school for transgender students has opened its doors in Multan, Punjab.

18 students are currently enrolled, but more are expected to join.

Trans people are often ostracised by the conservative community in Pakistan.

Many are reluctant to enrol in schools to avoid discrimination and end up having to beg, dance or take up sex work to survive.
