SOUNDBITE:

SOT, Mohammed Konde, spokesperson for the Paris Undocumented Migrants’ Collective (French): “We are here today to commemorate the eviction of the Saint-Bernard church. In 1996, undocumented migrants were expelled in a shameful manner, with an axe. Every year, we undocumented migrants from France and Europe commemorate the anniversary of the eviction of Saint-Bernard to tell the French public that undocumented migrants have rights, that the French state did not have the right to expel undocumented migrants with extraordinary violence without respecting the right to asylum, without respecting the Geneva Convention, without respecting the international law of the UN. This is why every year the Paris undocumented migrants’ collective organises this demonstration, with the Senegalese, with the Spanish, with the other collectives of Paris to beat the pavement in France, to show that we undocumented migrants have rights.”
