France: Two people dead as wildfire expands near Saint-Tropez

Dark smoke rose from trees burning in the Var region near Saint-Tropez, Wednesday, as wildfires killed at least two people.

Canadair aircraft were seen flying over the area where the blazes are raging and expanding since Monday.

“I live in La Garde-Freinet, we are completely blocked, the fire started from Gonfaron, took all the hills, it took the corridor of the wind which passes there, just above, to join all that is neither of the Val de Gilis, the hamlet of La Tour. It burned down completely,” said Mourad Ramoul, an evacuated resident.
Several firefighter troops are currently conducting fire extinguishing operations, while several residents have been forced to evacuate.
